High-voltage Cable Testing

Author: David

High-voltage cable testing, sometimes known as HiPot (High Potential), is a method of testing used to ensure adequate insulation in a myriad of applications ranging from electric motors and printed circuit boards to transformers and industrial cables.
Users of this system may select dual-polarity DC and cable jacket or sheath output modes. Testing the insulation is vital in determining the safety of cables, reducing the chance of electrocution. Meggar testing equipment is therefore a valuable investment for any business in the power services industry.

These testing devices maximize the dependability of motors, generators, and transformers by utilizing variable frequency (VLF) output, enabling technicians to locate weak cables. Locating problems in an electrical problem before it becomes out-of-control can minimize maintenance costs and extend the life of the equipment being tested. Like any system, an electrical system needs the TLC that HiPot testing affords.

A HiPot tester generally consists of three parts: a high-voltage source, a switching matrix used to connect all points in a circuit, and an amp meter (that measures the current in a circuit). When the high-voltage is applied, an ideally insulated device leaks only a minimal amount of current, keeping the device safe. When there is a breakdown in the dielectric, a material very resistant to electric flow, however, a dangerous amount of current escapes through the insulating material and presents a potentially fatal situation for a service technician.

This process is equally important in regulating quality control in the factory. When applied to brand-new cables, this test provides important information on how much voltage can be delivered without damaging the product and causing dielectric breakdown, as well as the resistance of the cable insulation.

Ensuring safety and increasing the dependability and lifetime of electrical devices is vital to any power services company's success. With the many benefits of using high-voltage cable testing and the need to ensure safety, many would argue that using a HiPot testing system is just as important as seeing their doctor for a check-up.

Partial Discharge Monitoring For All Of Your High Voltage Equipment

Author: Adair Sawyer

Most operations managers who have been in their chosen industry for an extended part of their careers will have had at least one type of high voltage equipment fail or break down on their watch. Often, this is enough to galvanize them into action and convince them that some form of monitoring system is necessary. Many operations thus have partial discharge monitoring systems in place for a particular class of their high voltage machinery. The problem, however, is that few operations managers see the bigger picture right away – that it is not only that particular type of equipment that failed that requires monitoring, but everything else too including motors generators cables switchgear and transformers.

Even for those who already know what partial discharge means and what partial discharge monitoring entails, many do not fully understand the need for a fully comprehensive partial discharge monitoring system. You cannot simply install a monitoring system only on those pieces of equipment that you suspect might fail, because it is impossible to tell with certainty what might or might not fall prey to insulation failure. That is the whole point of having a partial discharge monitoring system – the fact that uncertainty will always be present and the monitoring system is a way to keep that uncertainty in check by always being alert for trouble.

Of course, the cost of installing such a fully comprehensive system of partial discharge monitoring systems often causes operations managers to balk and most are extremely reluctant to even suggest to higher management that such drastic measures are necessary. When you stop to consider the statistics and figures that are easily available concerning the cost of a major equipment breakdown or failure and also the loss in revenue due to the interruption of work processes, most executives would quickly be convinced of the need for these measures.

The fact of the matter is that partial discharge monitoring systems are true early warning systems and not merely systems that are designed to make you feel better – they actually work. Once partial discharge occurs on any piece of machinery, be it motors generators cables switchgear or transformers, a full-blown failure is probably not far behind. With the sheer number of motors generators cables switchgear and transformers that a single industrial building houses, it would be impossible to conduct proper periodic checks on every single piece of equipment – signs would go unnoticed.

The only foolproof method to keep track of all the motors generators cables switchgear and transformers at the same time is through the use of monitoring systems. By installing sensors on all of the large high voltage machinery and at key junctures in the electrical wiring and cabling systems, the risk of a problem developing outside of your notice becomes that much lower. Just as so many countries in earthquake-prone areas of the world have invested enormous amounts of money to install tsunami early-warning systems just so that they have advance notice of impending disaster, partial discharge monitoring systems serve the same sort of purpose, with the only difference being that you can actually do something about the problem once it has been identified through your monitoring system.

Without a partial discharge monitoring system from Dynamic Ratings to maintain constant surveillance of the motors generators cables switchgear in your area of operations, there will be no way for you to tell if a piece of equipment were about to experience insulation failure.

How Magnetic Generators Function?

Author: Anna Smith

A standard generator is designed to provide backup power during an electrical blackout. You've probably seen a gas generator before, they run on a gasoline engine to create electricity. Of course, this means you need to deal with the exhaust from the generator, as well as keep it full of fuel to continue running. Generators work by converting mechanical energy from combustion into electrical energy.

However, there is a new type of generator available now. This generator uses no fuel and creates no exhaust fumes and pollution. Let's talk about the Magnetic Power Generator. A magnetic power generator is a generator that is unlike anything else you've ever seen. Instead of being powered by gasoline, it's powered by magnetism. Let me explain. We all remember playing with magnets in school. And they would stick together if we held them one way, but then they'd repel each other and push away if they were held a different way. This simple principle is what creates power inside a magnetic power generator. When magnets push and pull each other, this creates motion. And as we know, motion is energy. So if you use strong enough magnets, they will create enough motion that it can be captured as energy and then turned into electricity. And that's exactly what happens inside a magnetic power generator. Extremely powerful magnets are used and their natural tendency to attract and repel each other creates energy which is then used to create electricity.

This is an exciting new technology that is changing the way we think about not only emergency backup electricity, but also how we create power for us in everyday life. The benefits are obvious. Less pollution because we don't need to burn anything. And it can be an always on device that doesn't need to be turned on in the case of a loss of power. And it runs quietly, without the loud noises associated with internal combustion (gasoline powered) generators.

If you worry about what you will do in the case of a black out, you should definitely look into a magnetic power generator. Do a little research and find out if this type of generator is right for you and your family. After doing a little research, you'll be able to make an informed decision about whether or not a magnetic power generator is right for you and your personal situation. And I think after you look into them a little more, you'll do exactly what many other people have done: Build a magnetic power generator for your home.

So as you can see this amazing breakthrough. Here are a number of key elements we got from this amazing discovery.

  • It works in every home and requires only a small amount of space.
  • You can reduce or eliminate your power bill by implementing this technology.
  • It works in all conditions, it can work in extreme heat or extreme cold without any problems.
  • The material needed to build a magnetic generator are cheap and easily accessible anywhere in the world.

Can You Use Voltage Generated By Tesla Coils And Van De Graaf Machines For Electrical Devices In General?

Author: Sarin Carlson F

Can you use the voltage generated by Tesla coils and or van de graaff machines for hosue hold use, or to use on electrical devices in general?

Click on this link ==> tesla secret reviews, to learn how to erect your own Tesla Generator to power your home for free!

Van de Graaf generators generate static electricity, not very useful, but Tesla coils were originally developed for the wireless transmission of electricity. All you need is two Tesla coils one to transmit and one to receive the energy. I remember reading a story of a lab that had two Tesla coils across the room from each other and they were energizing one and the other had its terminals bonded. After energizing the one they noticed the other started to smoke and they realized that they were transmitting power wirelessly.

So basically the answer is No. Tesla coils produce high voltage AC (radio frequency), low current. Van De Graaf machines generate high voltage DC low current. Most electrical devices require much lower voltage and much higher current.

The Tesla coil is one of Nikola Tesla's most famous inventions. It is essentially a high-frequency air-core transformer. It takes the output from a 120vAC to several kilovolt transformer & driver circuit and steps it up to an extremely high voltage. Voltages can get to be well above 1,000,000 volts and are discharged in the form of electrical arcs.

Tesla himself got arcs up to 100,000,000 volts, but I don't think that has been duplicated by anybody else. Tesla coils are unique in the fact that they create extremely powerful electrical fields. Large coils have been known to wirelessly light up florescent lights up to 50 feet away, and because of the fact that it is an electric field that goes directly into the light and doesn't use the electrodes, even burned-out florescent lights will glow.

There is this book that contains step-by-step instructions on how to make a Tesla Generator. The guide is called: Tesla Secret. Since the release of The Tesla Secret Handbook, 1000s of people allover the world have used it to build their own personal Tesla Generators and are now powering their homes for free!

Do you want to discover how you can also generate free electricity to power your house at no cost? If yes, then you need to download a copy of the Tesla Secret Handbook.
