Some car alarms come with multiple remotes but it is human nature to lose things and the remotes are no exception. They either break, get misplace or totally lost. You can buy replacement car alarm remotes at any electronic store or automobile store and they are not expensive. However, the cost comes into effect when it comes to programming them. You can program your own replacement car alarm remote and save yourself the money.
Things you will need for a replacement car alarm remote:
Step 1 - Close doors and trunk
Place the key in the ignition and close all of the doors and the trunk. Then turn your key two clicks to the right. That would be one click short of the "start" position.
Step 2 - Release override
Press and release the override button on the alarm remote five times in under eight seconds.
Step 3- Finishing the programming of the first remote
Press the lock button on the alarm remote to finish the programming for that remote.
Step 4 - Program other car alarm remotes
Get another remote and follow steps 2 through 4 to program it into the car's alarm system. When you have finished, remove the key from the ignition and test the remotes by pressing any button.
If your car's alarm system is not known to you, and you are not mechanically savvy enough to try to find the name, and you lost the remote what do you do? No, you don't replace the whole alarm system, you call the dealer first. The dealer would be able to tell you the make and model number of the alarm system in your car. You can then go on to an electronics store or an auto parts store, and buy a replacement remote and program it according to the instructions above.
You lost your remote and cannot drive your car because the alarm will go on and not shut off. If that has happened to you then we suggest you open the hood and check the battery for the wire that leads to the alarm. Somewhere along that line there should be a fuse. Remove the fuse and that will disable the alarm.
