Advances in Modern Day Remote Cars

Technology has went through leaps and bounds with the hobby of remote cars or radio controlled cars. Back in the 70's they were limited to a remote control attached by wires to the car, with limits such as distances of 5 to 10 feet and 4 way remotes (forward, reverse, left, and right). During the 80's and 90's remote cars took off in the direction of wireless remotes and cars that were modified with suspensions, motors, and even lights. The remotes were the basic functions with the addition of trim for the steering, plus on a few remotes and cars, there would be additional buttons for horns, lights, etc. Also the manufacturers were coming out with remote cars designed to flip over and drive upside down, transform into different vehicles or shapes, talk, fire rockets, and even simulate emergency vehicles.

Now in the last decade there have been significant advances in remote cars. They have come out with digital remotes that run off of batteries or solar powered. They also are now allowed to change frequencies in the remotes and are programmable to the users likes. The remote cars themselves have changed dramatically. There are gas powered cars which require a gas powered motor and have drive trains much like a real car. There are solar powered cars in production, but the most common run remote car is still the battery powered. Today's remote cars run off of several types and sizes for batteries, 9.6 volt being the most common battery run in a remote car today. They also offer interchangeable bodies, suspension, tires, and just about any other part on the more advance remote cars out there. The more advanced cars or vehicles run a scaled m.p.h. and some will actually run faster than a real car in a 1/4 mile track.

In the last ten years or so they have even been experimenting with full scale cars that run on remotes, and even some that run off of sensors with no driver at all. In summary, remote cars in the last 30 years have technologically advanced in leaps and bounds with gas, electric, solar, and other fueled engines, new suspension types, driver less or remote less cars. There are many to choose from including remote cars, trucks, planes, motorcycles, four wheelers, and even boats and submarines. With the way technology is advancing I am sure there will be new ideas coming out in the near future for this hobby.
